New Staff in Nongkhai

Cindy:
After traveling through Thailand extensively over the last 15 years and studying and working around the globe,
Cindy (26) has chosen Nong Khai as her new home. As a graduate in International Public Relations and communications, she will be responsible for the coordinating, developing and marketing of our programs from Nongkhai. Furthermore, she is responsible for all initial contact with volunteers wishing to come to Thailand, including all Thai placements. Coincidentally, she is the sister of Rick, who is our coordinator in Pai!

Pik:
Pik is a student of International Business at the University of Khon Khaen Campus in Nongkhai.
Pik is our coordinator for Camps and other activities we do together with the students at his university. Pik also does our Thai cooking classes in Nongkhai.

New T2T website

Our website continues to develop:
This time our changes are not so much the design but the navigation bar. With new drop down menues we manage to make the site more easy to navigate and information more easy to access. This is work in progress so a frequent visitor may find small changes appearing off and on.

Travel to Teach in new office in Nongkhai

As a keen reader of this Newsletter you probably have noticed the lack of letters for July and August.

Office in NongkhaiYou might think that we have dissappeared :)! Not so. Travel to teach is running and growing and as busy as ever. But we have introduced some new staff and changed localities.

Charlotte has gone back to England after two very productive years in Nongkhai. She is presently our UK representative and will continue working for T2T in different capacities.

As Jennie had to go back to Sweden to continue her studies, Cindy (presented in the right hand column) has taken over her and parts of Charlottes duties.

Jessica has been on a trip to Vietnam to check on program developments and ensure implementation of our policies there. She is also working on new programs in Laos and Honduras.

As Travel to Teach has expanded our head office in Nongkhai has grown from one room to occupying the whole bottom floor of Kerstins house in Nongkhai. So we found new space in the center of Nongkhai, one block behind the green dorm. A typical Thai town house with the carport opening towards the street. One big “office room” downstairs and two very nice bedrooms upstairs.

Picture shows T2T Nongkhai and Head Office staff in front of the new office.

Carneval trip to Bolivia

Carneval in Bolivia Sometimes through our partners we are able to offer special trips. Last summer we had a sightseeing/volunteerwork combination in the Mekong delta.

This February we are offering a fantastic volunteer/ cultural program combining volunteer work with a cultural tour in Oruro and Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
Carnaval takes place in Oruro which is called the “Folklore Capital of Bolivia”. All participants will enjoy an 11 day cultural tour in Oruro which includes Carnaval festivities, museum tours, a gastronomic tour, a trip to a Natural Spa, and a Bolivian folk music concert.

Participants will then go to Santa Cruz where they will receive 10 hours of Spanish lessons and then work 11 days as volunteers teaching in local schools and within community development projects.

This program has it all! For further inquiries or to sign up please contact Jessica at apply@travel-to-teach.org or jessica@travel-to-teach.org .

Teaching English in Hanoi

Volunteer and kids in Hanoi

Travel to Teach/ Hanoi has recently launched a pilot project teaching English to children from the rural villages surrounding Hanoi.

At present the teaching takes place in Ha Tay province where volunteers travel to teach the children twice a week. The first session was informal and attended by 20 children ranging from 6 – 15 years of age and a variety of English speaking skills. Basic vocabulary and phrases were practiced with the younger children while the older children’s focus was pronunciation and listening.

The children of Ha Tay province have had little previous contact with foreigners and their enthusiasm for learning English has made the experience fantastic for both the children and the volunteers. With the success of this pilot teaching program Travel to Teach plans to expand this project into many other rural villages in the provinces surrounding Hanoi.
