Anina, Sweden:
"I have been studying to become a teacher in Sweden for 3.5 years. With one year left to go on my teaching programme I felt that I needed a break and some inspiration. I wanted to travel but didn’t know how and with who."

Biking in the countryside
Small roads and very little trafic makes the Cambodian countryside ideal for biking.

Combination Stays
We are no longer currently setting up volunteer programs in Koh Kong. Instead we are initially concentrating on starting a program further along the coast in Sihanoukville, however we are hopeful of re-starting our Koh Kong programs once the Sihanoukville programs are firmly estabilshed.
T2T has long wanted to expand into the more rural regions of Cambodia and has added Koh Kong as a volunteer location. Koh Kong is the coastal south-western most province of Cambodia; the province claims an undeveloped and uninhabited coastline along the Gulf of Thailand as well as a shared border with Thailand. Because it borders Thailand, travelers often pass through without stopping on their way to the beach resorts of Sihanoukville and the city streets of Phnom Penh. Our volunteer program is located in the provincial capital of the same name; it is a sleepy yet picturesque town which is still largely untouched by the western world. The town itself sits on the banks of the Kah Bpow River which flows directly into the Gulf. Nearby one can easily access the beaches of Koh Kong Island, plenty of waterfalls, nature and wildlife reserves and the Cardamom Mountains.
In the beginning our volunteer program in Koh Kong will focus on English teaching but plans to expand into environmental conservation, eco-tourism, and community work in the near future.
Salat Titumphet Primary School. English teaching
Salat Titumphet is the provincial school for the Koh Kong Province and is situated in the town. It is an extremely large school with 1,858 students at last count. The students currently have English classes but they are given by the Khmer teachers whom have little knowledge of the English language themselves. Our volunteers will be conducting English classes for the students and the teachers. Salat Titumphet has never had a western teacher, our volunteers will be conducting their own classes and sometimes assisting the Khmer teachers.
Accomodation
Travel to Teach volunteers will be staying in a basic but nice volunteer dorm in the center of town.
Food and Cooking
Koh Kong has a variety of restaurants including those with Khmer, Thai, Vietnamese and Western cuisine. There is also excellent seafood available. A typical meal costs between $1-$5 depending on the type of restaurant, western food being the most expensive. The volunteer house has a kitchen with basic cooking facilities and amenities and there is a large central market where one can purchase a variety of produce, rice, and meats. Please note that at the time this was written there were no grocery stores with western food items available in town.
Weather
The weather in Cambodia is hot and humid throughout the year with 2 distinct seasons, hot, from December to April, and rainy (although still hot) from May to November. The coolest time of the year is November – February where temperatures average approximately 22 degrees Celsius.
How to get to Koh Kong
From Phnom Penh: Buses run several times daily from the capital city. The bus fare costs around $6 US and takes 5 hours.
From Bangkok: Buses run several times daily from Bangkok to the Koh Kong Cambodian border. The trip to the border takes 4 hours and costs $10 US. At the border one must go through Cambodian immigration and then hop in a taxi to make the short drive to Koh Kong town.
